On February 27, the Nashville Lawn and Garden Foundation gave a generous donation to endow the Joe Smith AIFD Endowed Fund and included the AIFD Foundation in the dedication of the Joe Smith Floral Design Gallery.
Twenty four designers presented their work, also Jim Marvin AIFD, Charlie Groppetti AIFD and Todd Smith traveled to be there. Joe’s wife Claudette attended the event to endow his legacy. Kevin Coble’s AIFD leadership in this effort was fundamental and he also designed the exquisite entry to the gallery. Brenda Blackburn AIFD, Doris Hargrove AIFD, Kevin Hinton AIFD and the friends of Joe, too many to name, have supported, not only this event, but the several that led to this endowment.
Joe’s floral career began in Nashville and spanned more than fifty years. He left an irreplaceable mark on this community through his inspired designs at nearly every major charitable event, and at numerous significant Nashville music venues. His work was unmistakable. His understanding and intuition, regarding future trends in the floral industry, were considered visionary. He was recognized nationally and internationally as a designer of note. Countless people, whose industries intersected with his, recognized him as their mentor and felt that their success was directly resultant from their association with him. He had the unique ability to relate to every person he met. He excelled in knowing how to do things just right. “Just make it pretty” was his consult when designers looked to him about developing their own style.
